Generic Abilify, Aripiprazole Tablet 20 mg Part 1
Drug Description
Generic Abilify belongs to a group of drug called psychotropic drug. This drug is offered as Generic Abilify® (aripiprazole) Tablets, Generic Abilify® (aripiprazole) Oral Solution, Abilify DISCMELT® (aripiprazole) Orally Disintegrating Tablets, and Abilify® (aripiprazole) Injection, a solution for intramuscular injection. This drug has inactive ingredients such as cornstarch, lactose monohydrate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium stearate. FD&C Blue No. 2 Aluminum Lake and Ferric oxide (yellow or red) are used for color.
Indication
Generic Abilify is used to treat schizophrenia, manic and mixed episodes connected with bipolar disorder in adults and adolescents 10 to 17 years old.
This drug may also be applied with antidepressants for the treatment of severe depressive disorder in adults.
Contraindication
This medication is contraindicated in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis.
Caution should be applied in patients having kidney and/or liver disease.
Dosage and Administration
The information given below suggests a common dosage.
Bipolar Disorder
To treat bipolar disorder in adults, an initial dose of 15 milligrams (mg) daily has been recommended for as long as 6 weeks. The dose can be increased to 30 mg daily if required.
For children and adolescents 10 to 17 years old, this dosage is 10 mg daily, as monotherapy or adjuvant treatment with lithium or valproate. The initial dose is 2 mg daily that can be titrated to 10 mg daily over a period of 4 days.
